September 14, 2011A study backed by the National College Players Association was released on Tuesday. The study provides analysis of the value of student-athletes and includes the following points:
1) The average annual shortfall for FBS full scholarship athletes is $3,222.00.
2) Football players with the top 10 highest estimated fair market values are worth between $345k–$541k.
3) Basketball players with the top 10 highest estimated fair market values are worth between $620k–$1 million.
4) The compensation of FBS student-athletes who are on full scholarships situates the vast majority of the student-athletes at or below the poverty line.
